Jane Lu has made a name for herself running business in her own way.
After quitting her job as a corporate accountant at the age of 18 and quickly getting into debt, the Sydney-based entrepreneur launched an online fashion store, Showpo, in her parents’ garage in 2010.
Showpo has since grown into a multi-million dollar style empire, with annual sales of over $ 30 million last year and an impressive 1.4 million Instagram account.
Now 32, Ms. Lu shared words of professional wisdom with Pop Sugar, as well as how she maintains a healthy work-life balance and the best advice she has ever received.

Although she is a source of fear for many professionals, Ms. Lu admitted that she enjoys change due to the constant opportunities it presents.
Her willingness to embrace change is what she attributes her incredible success to, along with “perfect timing” that got her to jump into e-commerce at the perfect time.
Asked about her number one motivator when business gets tough, Ms. Lu said she was “a bit drunk.”
âI usually put things off until the last minute and it’s not even an option anymore – I just have to do it,â she told Pop Sugar.
Ms. Lu admitted that she enjoys change due to the constant opportunities it presents.

Ms. Lu revealed that the best advice she ever received came from her boyfriend with the rather unusual mantra: “You are not special.”

These days, Showpo is focused on rolling out its new inclusive range from sizes four to 20.
The campaign is underpinned by Showpo’s mission to reach out to girls and women of all sizes, a message that has received a plethora of positive responses on social media.
The company now works with leading âdigital influencersâ including Sydney-based bikini model Pia Muehlenbeck.
Ms. Lu does things differently when it comes to human resources, taking employees on weekends to Byron Bay and on a boat around Sydney Harbor, away from the âcabinâ life of her former corporate career.
âThe best part is that my parents, who gave up so much for me to immigrate here from China, no longer have to worry about money.
âI can’t believe I can offer this to them,â Ms. Lu said previously.
